Racerstar BR2205. Maybe the best low-cost racing motors

Looking back, in previous post, we were discussing about another low-cost brushless motor with great cost-benefit, RCX1804. Following with this premise, we are going to annalize perhaps the next step to our quads.

Obviously, RCX are great motors to begin with, but you will like to improve the time you get more experience flying. So, it's natural to look for powerful motors to get faster flights.

Racerstar BR2205 2300kv

Taking this into account, we are going to introduce you the BR2205.

Once they have been tested, we can conclude are awesome motors to going faster. Those racing motors allow to save a considerable amount money without renounce to have a good performance.

Same brand offer two diverse power options: 2300kv and 2600kv. First one are the most extended and my recommendation, being so much easier to find.

In terms of prices you could find it around 38/40€ in Europe and 28/30€ in China.

Each motor is delivered in it's own red box, conferring very good aspect even being cheap motors. Included in the box, you would find screws with two different lengths allowing to mount the motors in several thickness of frames. Also, each motor includes security nuts, very valuable think I my opinion. Finally, you could find it in 6 vivid colors and also in classic black, giving great possibilities of your quad appearance.

Three of the available colors

Who should be destination user?

Obviously, following with our own words, they are not the most appropriate to beginners nor most experienced users (pro users). So, destination users are mainly the medium to high users, who are a great percentage of "droners".

Red BR2205 set in f250 arm

Why?

These are a very fast motors, able to set in frames 180 to 250f (tested in both by our team), cheap and, even in first lookup, are shown as high quality one. There is a big jump from RCX.

Are also considerably most heavy, but so much powerful, and works really awesome.

Real weight

Great colour spectrum allows you to take a very personal aspect to quads.

Anyway, being realistic, not all is perfect whit these motors. Should be aware are low-cost motors so there are a couple of things that should be improved in my opinion. So couldn't be paired to expensive racing motors as DYS SE2205 and SE2205 PRO or one of the most known EMAX RS2205 red bottom. Obviously, prices are also big different.

Despite of it, you would not feel defrauded if you purchase it.

I like

Cheap

Powerful

Easy to find out

Screws and security nuts are included in packaging

Two screw lengths to set in diverse frame thickness

Two power options (2300kv / 2600kv)

Maybe the best for the price

I don't like

Although seems to be very robust are fragile to big impacts. Once being shocked twice, motor performance wil star to decrease or, even, could be totally broken.

Solution: Two possible solutions:

- Set motor protectors like in the previous picture. Will extend the workable time.

- Due the price, purchase, at least, couple of spare motors.

In case of wires would be cutted to optimize the setup, soldering process will turn to be almost impossible, due the wires seem to reject the pewter.

Solution: Do not cut the wires. Solder it and then gather up with tape.

Specs:

BR2205 2300kv

Motor diameter = 27.9 mm.

Axis diameter = 5 mm.

Nut diameter = 5mm (M2)

Weight = 28 g (including nut).

Voltage = 2-4 S (7.4v–14.8v)

Kv = 2300 KV.

Official push and power consumption in datasheets due we still not have our own test results.

Tests:

*5045 = 660g (3s) y 950g (4s)
*4045 = 530g (3s) y 710g (4s)

You could noticed official values are the same in both models (we have only test 2300kv) so we wonder there is no real difference between them further than the name.

Efficiency could be compared to RCX. You could noticed how better they are.

In summary

We love these motors. Simple but truth. In case you're looking to get next step in quality and speed, do not hesitate to bet for BR2205 Racestar.

My recommendation

Protect your motors and useful life will be extended.

We have tested DAL 4040 propellers with 4 arms in f180 and results are simply precious. Quad moves softly but fast. Also, tested Kingkong 5040 three arms in f210 and f250 also working fine.

Please, do not mount oversize props in order to avoid problems. 60xx sure works great, but motor will suffer too much, decreasing his useful life.

Flight test

Tips:

Give your personal appearance to your frame, choosing meticulously motor colour. Final setup will be so nice.

Soon will annalize Readytosky RS2205, also low-cost motors with very nice appearance. Really, are the Chinese version of Emax red bottom so, if the performance it close to it, should be another great option to mount.

Regards.

RCX ZMR 1804 2400KV Brushless Motors

To my first review it’s fair to beggin with the very first motor that I use in my first DIY drone, RCX ZMR 1804 2400KV. I set it in f250 glass fiber quad. In fist lookup RCX are small and light motors but powerfull anyway. Exactly 13.4g, so perfect to set and don’t be worried about the weight. Furthermore, it’s diameter only 23mm, 5mm in axis. Theoretically, provide 2400KV and may set with 2S (7.4V) or 3S (11.1V) batteries so discard mounting with 4S batteries, are not allowed, looking in datasheets. Package include M2 screws to fix the motors in the frame. Also, one nut per motor to set the propellers. Could be found in CW (Clock Wise) and CCW (Counter Clock Wise) but, to be honest, I have never found CW model. It’s could a problem using nut provided in the package, because tend to unscrew. Also, screws are quite short and should be re-screw almost before every flight. Both issues could be easily solved. Setting few larger M2 screws, cheap and common, let you ...

Adding external DVR to FPV goggles

Being FPV lovers as we are, FDFlyers team know how only a small group of lucky people could have a Fatshark FPV goggles. Keeping in mind cost, you should valuate pros and cons a lot before purchase it.  Therefore, we love to get you cheaper alternatives to fly FPV, improving our basic goggles performance. So, we are going to introduce you how we join VR-007 Eachine goggles to Eachine ProDVR. Note that other alternatives are also valid to do it but we really feel this is one of the better one. VR-007 are used by our side some time ago and it works really acceptable, despite of his price. Obviously “premium” skills are not included (DVR, diversity…), and this is the main reason to set some improvements. This way these basic goggles would be stepping up to next level. What DVR is? DVR means, literally, Digital Video Recorder. It’s a very simple box capable to record digital videos. To our interest, very useful video recorder, directly from FPV camera. There are two ma...
